‘Gideon Kiers, David Kiers, and Lucas van der Velden not only use EYE Filmmuseum in their Testfilm #4 as a canvas and filmstrip but also see the institute as the epitome of cinema and film history. Testfilm #4 is therefore a tribute to the technological image culture and the history of Dutch experimental film.’Amsterdam Light Festival

The film has undergone enormous technological development in recent years, from analogue film to digital cinema, but what consequences does this progress have? By approaching and ‘technologizing’ the projection mapping as a technical experiment (by using the carrier and display technology as an instrument) Testfilm #4 brings the audience a new experience. Among other things, by changing speed, compression and resolution; the use of ‘glitch’ and other film techniques will seem to disintegrate the image itself, making it possible to experience the medium, as it was never before.

Testfilm #4 is a projection mapping project presented on the EYE Filmmuseum façade in Amsterdam Jan 25 – 28 and Feb 3 – 10, 2018. It is the fourth research project in a series of cinematic studies which investigate the implications of new technological developments in digital cinema for the world of experimental film and expanded cinema.
